How do you hit the Reset Button?
Getting on top of stress starts with getting in charge of your internal responses not just at the conscious level, but also subconsciously. That sounds tricky but really it isn’t. And the reason we need to create a shift at that level is because often our very important, helpful (and sometimes over-working!) fight-flight system is doing just that: overworking. While it is designed to protect us from harm, it can inadvertently start running a little too automatically when we are under pressure or worried.
It helps to ‘reset’ this innate survival response so that it only triggers when you are truly in harm’s way and want to be able to fight, fly or freeze (such as stepping out of the way of a moving car). After all, sitting in the office with an impending deadline or running late for a meeting is not generally considered mortally dangerous, right?! The rest of the time you can be calm, focused and energised in a way that actually helps you feel good and get things done.
