My work has evolved a lot over the years and even more so recently. Many of my current clients are aware of this as they’ve also been stepping into deeper healing within themselves but it’s time to share more widely what this looks like now. I am very happy and excited to be sharing this update with you! 💛
I’ve had a rather fulsome personal journey in recent years, on the back of various health challenges that I will probably elaborate on another time, life has been very much about work (clients) and health and not much else. Last year I consciously decided to claim more time and energy for my personal life and social life which included a new (one-year long) relationship. What I didn’t realise was that most of what this space and capacity would allow for was my spiritual growth, which has kept me very busy. I’ve had some profound experiences that have forever changed me and continue to do so. While the relationship didn’t continue, it most certainly contributed to my deeper discovery of the Divine and of who I am as a person. It’s been a big couple of years and I’m at a point now where I’m getting used to the fact that extraordinary things will happen quite often and that that’s just the nature of my life now. But really it all started a long time ago.
It began with nature
I’ve always had a sense there is more than the physical and material world right in front of us. The fact that it couldn’t be seen in obvious ways didn’t diminish my curiosity, it was like I had a knowing. In my teens I had several experiences of feeling the energy of nature, such as the energy emanating from a huge oak tree which was so visceral I couldn’t have imagined it. While giving a nod to the magical side of life, I always felt quite torn between that curiosity and getting on with ‘practical life’. I always wanted to make sure I would fit in and not seem too weird, stupid or naïve. So many times I’ve been accused of being a ‘hippy’ (a catch-all for, among other things, ‘you’re into things I don’t understand or value’) like it was a condition or culture you should be ashamed of having. Sheesh. (I have officially put down these concerns because I wouldn’t trade living with this awareness now for fitting in anywhere!)
I soon entered a university environment and culture that didn’t have much spirituality in it (at least not that I saw). Then I went into the corporate world, initially in New Zealand and then Europe. I focused on being a ‘sensible and productive’ human being – as per the expectations of my upbringing – although fortunately interspersed with many fabulous travel experiences in my five years of living in Europe and working around the World.
I’d been thinking of attending coach training but on my return to New Zealand in 2006 I felt called to teach yoga. After finding the school not very integrous I quit and lo and behold, soon got invited to train as a coach. It was a fantastic experience and I was excited! After feeling unfulfilled in my learning and development roles, I finally found myself in a helping profession that was more aligned with who I am and what I’d always wanted to do: help people claim their potential. It would be nearly 10 years later before I‘d start to understand that my work with people was going to reach far beyond my coaching tools. Even then I could feel other people’s emotions (something many of us can do) and was often sensing far more than the person was actually telling me; I just didn’t realise I was doing it.
Talking of extraordinary things happening, it was almost ten years ago on a weekend at Mana Retreat Centre in Coromandel (New Zealand) when one of those first more memorable moments happened. I’d walked to the top of Manaia mountain and the temple known as The Sanctuary. As I walked up the grass path towards the temple something made me stop and face out to the sweeping green hills and the sea view as my friends continued on. As I stood there, I suddenly felt an energy flowing down through my body from above me and was pinned to the spot. I was feeling quite self-conscious because I knew I was standing in the way of the gorgeous view if my friends were looking out the main window of the Sanctuary, but I couldn’t move my feet. I didn’t feel any tension in my body, I was in no way afraid, I quite simply just stood like a statue feeling this energy flowing in and filling me up. In my mind’s eye it looked like a golden light and it felt warm like honey filling a jar and I felt the presence of two archangels (which was quite simply a ‘knowing’ that they were there). This felt like it lasted for several minutes. I felt so peaceful, quiet and nourished afterwards. These days feeling that light of Spirit flowing through me is almost a daily occurrence but back then it ‘wowed’ me and stayed with me – although I didn’t really know what to do with it.
In the ensuing years I continued coaching (and further coaching training), I trained in various meditation practices, met some of my spirit guides, but I had my connection to Spirit very much compartmentalised to apply to myself and my own life rather than my client work.
Intuition really kicks in
Then about six years ago, after working for several months with a wonderful spiritual healer, Terri Morehu, my intuitive abilities started to really kick in. I was suddenly finding in my client sessions (which were mainly remote/phone or zoom sessions by now) that I was now being shown information to help that person heal their emotions, or identify which part of the younger self needed inner-child healing for instance. I was being shown land or buildings that needed clearing. I was being shown when an entity was attached to a person and affecting their energy. I am clairsentient which means I can feel the energy and frequency of people’s bodies, emotions and the energy of places and objects.
I realised that the intuition I was bringing to those sessions was often more useful than my coaching training, although I can’t imagine having only one without the other. They are the most perfect combo for facilitating growth and transformation. I’m often working with business owners or professionals and while we may initially focus on how they want to be leading more effectively at work, having more time freedom, or getting out of burnout, we almost always circle into the healing that has been called for within them to help them step into the highest expression of themselves. It could be healing unresolved emotions, clearing limiting self beliefs or even clearing trauma. It’s always about their inner growth as a whole person. Even in a professional context, it’s always personal.
“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”
In more recent years I’ve also had to learn about energy management and the energetic body because I wasn’t managing my own very well. And believe me when I say that when my chiropractor at the time first mentioned ‘energy management’ and told me I was ‘leaking energy’ quite severely, I had no bloody idea what she was talking about! However, once I learned how to manage my energy body I got really excited and it was a turning point in my own journey to more wellness, energy and sense of self.
When I realised the value of bringing this knowledge to my clients I thought, Oh, this is a little out there! What will people think??! And yet, when I can sense a client needs to be managing their energy body more effectively, they are invariably open to learning about this thing ‘they didn’t know they didn’t know’. And they can immediately feel the difference it makes when they are keeping their energy field clear; they’re less knocked around by people and situations and have more energy, clarity and ease in their day-to-day life.
It turns out that was only the beginning of understanding energy! Everything is energy, of course, and I’m now diving deeply into the science of the quantum environment we live in. One of the things I most love to teach right now is manifestation and how to come into alignment with the natural flow of life to create your own life. So good!
In more recent years I’ve also undertaken shamanic training which will continue. After practising various forms of yoga and qigong over the last 30ish years, in the last six months I’ve been training with mentors in the Korean Sundo tradition of qigong which is called Body and Brain Yoga here in the west. These are incredible teachings and practices about accessing source energy and building physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength. Roar!
So, what does all of this mean for the work I do?
What does it actually look like in practice? Over the last 17 years I’ve helped clients across a range of areas from stress and burnout, emotional healing, anxiety, depression, trauma and phobias to confidence, performance in sport or at work, leadership and lifestyle design. In more recent years I’ve also helped clients with a range of more energetic or spiritual related areas, so I now also:
- Help people understand and utilise the principles of manifestation and create more inner alignment so they can create the life they want.
- Teach energy management practices to keep their energy field clear and strong, and to live with more personal sovereignty.
- Help people more fully understand their spiritual path or their true nature (as a spiritual being having a human experience).
- Help people meet their spirit guides, guardian angels and helpers.
- Clear the land or space in their home or business property in order to help situations or relationships flow better.
- Help clear energies or entities that are causing interference with a person, place, relationship or situation.
- Help people communicate with deceased loved ones; giving and receiving messages.
This is the work, and it continues to expand and keep me on my toes! Info here on my spiritual growth offerings.
I’ve been feeling as if I have to answer the question, am I a business coach? Am I a practitioner who helps people heal emotional patterns and trauma? Am I a medium? Am I a spiritual healer? But I’m not one of those things, I am quite simply all of those things. I was chatting with a GP the other day and she said, “So you’re a business coach and an intuitive healer, huh? That’s a very unusual combination. It sounds fantastic, it’s just not something you see every day.” This combo is not something I would ever have predicted, it’s not something I tried to achieve, it has been my unfolding.
I also feel very called to say that in some ways what I do isn’t entirely the point; it’s about the purpose and the outcomes of what I do, which is to help people evolve into the highest expression of themselves.
That means you truly valuing yourself, having a clear sense of who you are, feeling strong and unshakeable in yourself, and allowing yourself (despite your upbringing, challenges, mindset, etc) to really Do You.
It’s for each of us to come into our own power in the healthiest and most in-powered and joyful way possible.
It’s for us to lead and create powerfully.
It’s so we can thoroughly enjoy our lives and shine our light for others so they too may feel they can flourish and beam their light.
May we shine like crazy for each other!
“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”
Today I find myself being given a Divine kick up the backside to let this light-work come forward more fully so I can serve all of you better. In many ways, this is about allowing Divine Love to flow through me, for you. Interestingly, when it flows through for you it is also flowing for me so it’s a double whammy of goodness. This explains why I’m often uplifted and energised after a client session. It is a blessing and a privilege.
So, this is, in a way, my declaration and notice to you, my beautiful community, that I am answering the call to let my light out, to let it flow over you and for you, in any way I can to light all of us.
It is Divine Love/God/Source/Nature/Universal energy (pick your term) that is lighting us by the way, not me. I would in no way suggest that you need me. You need nothing – that Divine light is flowing through you and for you 24 hours a day. If it doesn’t seem obvious yet, it may just be that you don’t feel fully consciously connected to it or aware of it, or are not yet living fully in alignment with it. It is there with every breath you take.
We are in the most interesting and transformational time in the history of human civilisation right now (which I’m going to have a go at writing about for you in the near future so that you have a map for understanding what’s actually going on in the world right now on various levels). Because of this, how we are looking after ourselves, managing our energy on all levels and whether we are recognising who we really are matters more and more. It’s the difference between pushing through and surviving what is going on, versus flourishing and reaching the fullest expression of who you are.
I’ve discovered that the nature of life is actually magical. Not Harry Potter magical, but being the light-of-who-you-are magical, collaborating-with-nature magical, allowing-life-to-flow-through-you magical. Everyday.
May your light shine, may my light shine. Jazz hands!
Thank you.
Much love,
Karen x
PS. If you know you’re hiding your light under a bushel, come out. Attend to what’s been keeping you stuck (and yes, I can help with that), and let yourself be You. You’re the only one who can. You’re meant to be here. And you’re meant to be yourself, if for no other reason than to be your most fully expressed, vibrant, authentic, brilliant and happy You. That is your Divine right.
PPS. If you’ve read all the way to here THANK YOU. This is by far the longest article I’ve ever posted and I really appreciate you taking the time to read it. I truly hope it serves you in some way that really makes a difference to you. Karen x
