I guess it’s fair to say that most self-help books almost always offer some fresh insights or angles on things, some inspiration, and hopefully a sense of motivation to actually go do something different as a result of reading them. And sometimes one of those books really knocks your socks off. Get Rich Lucky Bitch by Denise Duffield-Thomas is one of those.
It’s not the writing, or that Denise’s story is particularly dramatic – it actually isn’t dramatic at all really – but it’s in her voice, her moxie and her rock-solid knowing that you can create what you want and be as wealthy as you want. She knows it, I believe her, and her book is a practical, savvy guide to get there.
About 28 years ago, when I was an impressionable teenager – I guess you could say barely at the beginning of my search for wisdom and self understanding! – A friend gave me a copy of the inimitable As a Man Thinketh by James Allen. It was one of my bedside books for many, many years. Of course I read Louise Hay back then too. I probably even learned a bit about the power of positive thinking back in the 80’s when my Dad was listening to motivational tapes in his truck!
Much later on I began my NLP training and started to understand how our thoughts and beliefs influence our experience, how our internal lens determines how we see the world and so on. And I’ve now been in private practice as a coach for coming up 14 years. So, you know, I know a bit about how to think in useful ways, and how to break through our negative beliefs and stuck patterns. And I’ve worked on A LOT of my own stuff over the years. But some of my understandings really solidified and clicked into place in a whole new way when I read this book.
It’s wayyyy too easy to think that you don’t make enough money because of something outside of yourself… Just make sure that your “excuses” aren’t money blocks (spoiler alert: they totally are!) No excuse can stand in your way.
So, what was different and even more useful about Denise’s book?
The stand-out for me is that she totally has her finger on the pulse of the kinds of beliefs, perceptions and doubts that women especially are assailed by and stuck in. I found myself uncovering patterns of my own that I hadn’t spotted before because of all the examples she shared and all of the areas she covered. She really gets to the core of what keeps you stuck, so you can start clearing out the cobwebs and manifesting what you want.
Denise’s approach focuses on a HUGE amount of the HOW. It’s not just conceptual and aspirational, it is literally the step by step actions that help you clean up your money mindset, align with the flow you want, and then make it happen. It’s down to earth. And doable.
In Get Rich Lucky Bitch she also gives you a shit ton of practical resources – not just in the book but accessible on her website. She appears to be one of the most generous authors I’ve come across in this regard. If you do the steps and use the resources, you can’t not start experiencing changes.
She’s straight up, super real and totally passionate about YOU making money.
“It’s a terrible thing in life to wait until you’re ready.”
I could share some learnings or her top messages, but I’d rather you go buy the book because it’s definitely one to own and to go back to time and again.
Whether you want to be a mega-millionaire or to just create a life with consistent financial security and choice, Get Rich Lucky Bitch is a bible for how to make it happen.
Let me know what you think of it!
